Alex + Amanda :: Married | Bay Lake Church Island Wedding

Alex + Amanda :: Married | Bay Lake Church Island Wedding

Amanda and Alex’s wedding was relaxed, intimate, beautiful, personal and full of hope.  Bay Lake’s Church Island provided a personally significant and beautiful location for the wedding ceremony.  Then Alex’s family cabin provided a familiar, meaningful location for the post wedding cocktail hour. Finally, Ruttger’s Bay Lake Lodge provided an intimate, “up-north” location for the celebratory dinner.  All in all if was a wonderful day that revealed a lot about Alex and Amanda and what they value most.

When I arrived to the cabin I received a wonderful surprise.  Alex’s father asked me to use one of his cameras, in addition to my own, for the wedding day.  It was a vintage stereographic camera that was so much fun to shoot.  I think I captured 12-15 frames with it throughout the day.  It was full manual: twist a dial to advance the film, a lever to cock the shutter, rangefinder focusing with one viewfinder and another viewfinder for framing, aperture and shutter speed dials, in other words it is a VERY slow camera to work with, but it was a ton of fun. Here’s a picture of the camera.

All in all it was a wonderful wedding and it was a privilege for me to be a part of it.  Every time I attend a wedding I’m invited into the most intimate relationships in another person’s life: parents and their children, siblings, closest friends and spousal relationships.  These are the most real things in life, these are the things that truly matter in life.  Materials goods come and go, constantly decaying and corrupting, completely insignificant in respect to the real needs of our human hearts.  Relationships, however, perpetually growing, discovering, solidifying, loving, sacrificing… real love never fails.   This is what I need, something that never fails, that I can rely on, that fills me up to overflowing with a true satisfaction.

Alex and Amanda, thank you.
