Exploring with film at Grand Superior Lodge

Over the past 6 months I've been exploring with shooting film for a couple of reasons.

  1. It slows me down and pushes me to make better compositions because each press of the shutter costs me about $1.50
  2. The COLORS.  Oh my I love the colors. I love how you can change the exposures and processing combinations to manipulate the colors you get in return.
  3. There's something about the analog process of actually creating a new thing, in the real world, the instant you press the shutter.

Here's an image from Megan and Barry's wedding at Grand Superior lodge shot with Kodak Portra400 push processed two stops.   I love the colors.  Love, love, love them: the richness combined with the softness, her skin tones to die for, the inky blacks, the subtle transitions, all of it.

Madden's Resort Engagement Session - Ronnie + Erin

Erin and Ronnie's taste and spontaneity made for a great engagement session.  A very spontaneous engagement session, like a booked their wedding and engagement session 5 minutes before we started shooting spontaneous!  Do to my schedule we had 30 minutes for their engagement session at Madden's resort but man did we fit a lot into that 30 minutes!  Erin and Ronnie showed up with their A game so it worked perfectly.

Jenna + Spike | Engagement Video

Bar Harbor Supper Club Engagement Session \\ Katie + Sean

In love. Very comfortable with each. Willing to be vulnerable to each other. Able to depend on the other's acceptance of them in their vulnerability. So beautiful.

When I photographed Katie and Sean's engagement session at Fritz Loven Park near Bar Harbor Supper Club on the North End of Gull Lake, these of the attributes of their relationship that I noticed.  Very excited for their wedding this coming March.

Central MN Bride Wedding Editorial - Grey Eagle, MN

Once in a while you run into a creative spirit that is different but complimentary of your own and when you work with them your work goes one or two steps further than either of you could go on your own.  About 3 years ago, Kathie at Central MN Brides magazine asked me to shoot an editorial with her that you can view here.  Since then we have worked together many times and every time the synergy of her vision, style and planning bring my work further than I could bring it on my own.  Just about a month ago we worked together again at Olive Branch Retreat Center on a Kinfolk Themed wedding editorial.  A terrific videographer name Eric Olsen of Olsen-Media was there to capture the whole process and he put together this video.  Enjoy.

Wedding at Greysolon Ballroom Duluth, MN

The classic black tux always works, is always in style and raises the bar of sophistication right to the top.  Brock is sporting a classic black tuxedo by Hugo Boss that complimented his and Laura's wedding to a T. Brock and Laura's wedding was a classic affair, Duluth classic, with portraits at Glensheen Mansion and French River Shoreline, ceremony at The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary and reception at Greysolon Ballroom on Superior Street.  I can't wait to edit the rest of their wedding images.
