Frequently Asked Questions
Grand View Lodge is a historic four-season resort at 23521 Nokomis Ave in Nisswa, Minnesota, on the north shore of Gull Lake in the Brainerd Lakes area — about fifteen minutes north of Brainerd and Baxter. Ben and Steph's August ceremony was held in the lakeside gardens below the main lodge, with the reception in the ballroom, so their whole day stayed on one property.
Yes — the Chapel is an on-property white, wood-vaulted wedding chapel seating up to about 75, ideal for an intimate indoor ceremony and a built-in rain or winter plan. The Grand Staircase and the lakeside gardens handle larger outdoor ceremonies (up to 300). Ben and Steph held their ceremony outdoors in the garden but used the brick walkway right outside the Chapel — flower-lined and framed by the white board-and-batten facade — for their first look and couple portraits, which is one of the prettiest portrait corners on the grounds.
Grand View sets its own venue and catering pricing by package, guest count, and season, so the resort is the best source for current numbers — and because it's a full resort, most couples factor in on-site lodging for the weekend too. Photography is booked separately. Brainerd Lakes wedding photography generally runs from the low thousands up depending on coverage hours, whether there's a second shooter, and deliverables like an album or prints; my collections and current pricing are on the pricing guide, and I read every inquiry myself and reply within 24 hours.
Up to about 300 for a ceremony at the Grand Staircase, with the lakeside gardens accommodating large outdoor ceremonies as well. For receptions, the Grand Ballroom — where Ben and Steph held theirs — seats up to about 320, the Norway Center about 275, and the more intimate Heritage Room about 120.
Golden hour on the dock and lakeshore is the strongest window — roughly 8:00 to 8:30 PM in summer, and earlier (around 6:30 to 7:00 PM) in fall when the turning trees add color. During the day, the lakeside garden aisle and the towering pines give you soft, dappled light, and the flower-lined Chapel walkway photographs beautifully in full sun. Ben and Steph's August day let us work the gardens and the Chapel path in the afternoon before the ballroom took over for the evening.
Yes — it's a full resort with cabins, lodge rooms, and a hotel building, so couples and guests can stay on-property and make a weekend of it. At Ben and Steph's wedding that showed up in the small things, like a guest sneaking in a putt on the lodge's indoor practice green between the day's bigger moments — the kind of texture you only get when everyone's staying on the same grounds.
