I'm Tim Larsen — a documentary and editorial wedding photographer based in the Brainerd Lakes area, with 19 years and 350+ weddings. I know what the dock looks like from the water side versus the lodge side. I know how the morning light comes through the lodge windows. I know the Big Trout Lake shoreline catches the western light late in the evening. It's always the people.

When you're the only guests on the property, the pace is different — and I've learned how to be present for that kind of unhurried, private-venue wedding. And when we do step away for portraits on the dock, I give you just enough direction to feel confident and enough space to actually be yourselves. Most couples tell me it was their favorite part of the day — and they went in dreading it.

Manhattan Beach Lodge sits on the shore of Big Trout Lake, and the light changes throughout the day in ways that reward a photographer who knows the property. Morning light comes through the lodge windows with a warmth that's perfect for getting-ready coverage.

The Big Trout Lake shoreline catches the western light late in the evening, making the dock at sunset one of the strongest portrait windows at the venue. In midsummer, the golden window arrives around 7:30 PM. In September and October, it comes earlier and the light is warmer. It's the window I build every Manhattan Beach Lodge timeline around.
